刘志勇研究员，生于1946年4月，1969年毕业于西安军事电信工程学院通信工程系；1970年至1980年在第六机械工业部汉光机械厂从事计算机控制系统研究设计；1983年在西北电讯工程学院获工学硕士学位（计算机）；1983年至1984年在西北电讯工程学院计算机系教学；1987年在中国科学院计算技术研究所获工学博士学位（计算机）；其后在中国科学院计算技术研究所从事研究工作，任助理研究员、副研究员、研究员。曾于1988年至1992年及1995年至1996年做为博士后和访问科学家在 Pennsylvania State University （美国）、University of Alberta （加拿大）、及 Massachusetts Institute of Technology （美国）工作。1995年3月至2006年4月任国家自然科学基金委员会信息科学部副主任、常务副主任。现任中国科学院计算所前瞻研究中心主任研究员。 曾参加及主持过计算机控制系统、计算机算法、体系结构、并行处理等领域的多项研究，参加研制的计算机控制系统获得全国科学大会奖及省、部级奖励。已在国内外杂志（J.ACM、IEEE Trans.、JPDC、Parallel Computing、IPL 、中国科学、计算机学报等）、会议（ACM Supercomputing, IEEE FOCS, SPDP, IPPS, ICPP, ICCI等）上发表学术性论文70余篇，学术综述、科技政策、学术管理等方面文章10余篇，科学专著一部（Kluwer Academic Publishers），获国家发明专利一项；为中国计算机协会存储专业委员会常务委员，互联网专业委员会副主任委员；中国人工智能学会理事；做过一些国际学术会议程序委员会委员及组织委员会委员或主席。刘志勇的专业研究领域包括计算机算法、系统结构、并行处理、互联网络等。
